🌏 The Napua Kalei ʻIke Honua Scholarship

Honoring Legacy. Expanding Horizons. Inspiring Global Citizens.

The Napua Kalei ʻIke Honua Scholarship was created in loving memory of Donnalyn Napua Kalei, whose compassion, generosity, and deep sense of aloha touched everyone around her. Her belief in curiosity, kindness, and connection to the world continues to inspire the mission of The Napua Initiative for Global Learning (NIGL).

“Ike Honua,” meaning knowledge of the world, reflects the heart of this scholarship: to empower students to step beyond their familiar surroundings, engage with new cultures, and grow as global learners and community leaders. Each year, this $500 award supports deserving students participating in NIGL’s global programs.

Recipients of the Napua Kalei ʻIke Honua Scholarship demonstrate openness, courage, and a commitment to intercultural understanding. This scholarship helps ease financial barriers so students can fully experience international learning opportunities that strengthen their academic goals and broaden their global perspectives.

By supporting students in their journeys abroad, the scholarship carries forward Napua’s legacy of aloha and her belief that every person has the potential to make a positive difference in the world. Through shared experiences, cross-cultural connection, and global exploration, recipients honor her memory by living the values she embodied: empathy, curiosity, and a genuine love for others.

Through this scholarship, NIGL proudly continues Napua’s spirit—cultivating future leaders who learn from the world, care for their communities, and carry aloha wherever they go
